With the arrest of two youths, Delhi police today claimed to have busted an inter-state human trafficking racket, which was operating from northwest Delhi's Shakurpur area and rescued three minor girls.
The two arrested, identified as Prabhakar Singh (24)and Mohammed Israfil (28), were allegedly involved in trafficking minor girls from Jharkhand for the last five years, police said.
"Singh would lure minor girls from villages in Jharkhand on the pretext of employment or for site seeing in Delhi, and later hand them over to his aide Mohammed Israfil for around Rs 15000 per girl. Israfil would further dispose off the girls to employers for around Rs 35000," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
The operation of the duo came into light when a police team started working on the complaint of a 15-year-old girl who went missing from northeast Delhi's Shakurpur area.
Based on a tip-off, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of Delhi Police raided an apartment in Shakurpur, which turned out to be a placement agency from where the accused duo operated, and arrested the two, said Yadav.
"Based on their disclosure, three girls, including the 15-year-old girl who the police were looking for, were rescued from Shakurpur, Surajmal Vihar and Paschim Vihar areas," said an official.
