Delhi Police Comissioner B S Bassi today regretted that a large number of children live on the streets and promised to make every effort to prevent them from taking to crime.
"It is very unfortunate that we see children on the streets of Delhi. I assure that Delhi Police will, in every way, help street children," he said while attending a function here.
"We will help preventing these children from taking to crime," Bassi said during the event to mark the foundation day of National Commission for protection of Child Rights.
On the occasion, Planning Commission member Syeda Hameed launched an 'Online Complaint Redressal System' where complaints can be made in case of any atrocity committed on street children.
Children who attended the programme in large numbers were felicitated for beating all odds and getting themselves educated.
One of them described the hardships he faced while living on the streets and stressed the importance of his perseverance which ultimately landed him his dream job outside India.
