"The police need to improve its functioning. They will have to be more alert to contain incidence of violence against women. I think training of police has to be improved," she said.
Dikshit was asked about the murder of a 25-year-old woman last night on the Ring Road in Sarai Kale Khan. The victim identified as Pooja was with her husband Mohan Prasad and she was shot dead allegedly by a "drunk" man when she objected to his misbehaviour.
"The government can help, can alert people and will take action wherever required. The police also now have to be more alert. Around 20 to 22 lakh people move in Delhi metro and about 50 lakh people travel daily in buses. So, it comes to a total of around 70-72 lakhs commuters. To monitor it and to change the culture will take time," Dikshit said.
"We are making all efforts to ensure that an environment is created in Delhi where nobody feels unsafe," she said, emphasising on the need to improve policing.
In a letter to Singh, Dikshit had said that situation remained unchanged as no visible improvement in policing was witnessed in the city in the last two months though police had assured enhanced security for women following the incident that sparked massive public outrage.
