Delhi Police issues challan to over 8 lakh bikers

Delhi Police has fined over eight lakh bikers till July 31 this year, while more than 10 lakh challans were made in this category last year, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
"Delhi Police have challaned 10,42,516 two-wheeler riders in 2012 and 8,46,123 in 2013 till July 31," Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told Lok Sabha in a written reply to a query.
Two bikers died, while one was injured when they were performing stunts in the National Capital Region recently, he said.
Ramachandran said in order to imbibe discipline among two wheeler riders in NCT, regular enforcement action is taken by Delhi Police. Bikers are also sensitised an educated on road safety matters through regular release of press advertisements in the media and through broadcast on FM channels, he said.
Replying to another question, Ramachandran said as many as 264 complaints were received regarding extortion of money from people at the time of construction of their houses by Delhi Police personnel.
"There have been 36 such cases reported so far till July 31 this year. The number stood at 109 in 2012, 84 in 2011 and 35 in 2010," he said.
