Delhi Police launches unique active community policing scheme

In an effort to establish a connect with locals, Delhi Police has launched an unique active community policing scheme 'Yuva Prahari', under which youth of an area will be trained to accompany police control room (PCR) teams during patrolling in their area.
Announcing the scheme during his annual press conference here Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi today said "recently, we have started a unique active community policing scheme involving young adults between the age of 18-35 called 'Yuva Prahari' in partnership with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Department of Youth, Government of India."
Under the scheme, young adults, after attending specially designed orientation programme by Delhi Police, will be part of the patrolling teams in the PCR vans operating in their area.
"They would assist the police team in handling the calls. These young volunteers would help in further improving the interface between the patrolling staff and the community," he said, adding it would also positively channelise the energies of these non-student young adults.
On a pilot basis, 125 such volunteers which include 36 girls have been selected after a due selection process and police verification, Bassi said.
The volunteers have been imparted training for a week which includes basic first-aid, self defence and an understanding of the functioning and structure of the PA-100 Emergency Response System, he added.
