The incident took place last night when four employees of jeweller Surendra Gupta, a resident of Karol Bagh area, were returning to Delhi in a car after taking silver ornaments and diamonds worth Rs 1.5 crore from a Punjab-based jeweller.
"When a salesman working with Gupta, along with his two colleagues and driver, was returning from Punjab, two unidentified youths stopped their car on NH-1 near Khampur village. They snatched their bags containing silver and diamonds worth Rs 1.5 crore and fled the spot," Additional CP (Outer) Sanjay Kumar said.
"As the loot was reported, description of alleged robbers and description of vehicle involved in the incident was flashed to all border check posts and all mobile patrolling police control room vehicles," said another police officer.
"Today at about 1.15 p.M., the alert staff of the one of the Delhi Police Control Room MPV stationed at Narela and manned by HC Randheer Singh and Ct. Rajender spotted the car behind Raja Harish Chander Hospital Narela and started chasing. Finding the PCR van following them, the robbers fled after abandoning the car near Sector-5 Narela Chowk.
Police said the Spl. CP has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 each for the PCR van staff for their excellent work.
