The workshop, organised by NGO Philanthrope, was inaugurated today by Commissioner of Police B K Gupta at Rajinder Nagar Special Police Training Centre.

Underlining the importance of training, Gupta said, "The workshop aims to make police personnel more prepared for the life saving and rescue requirements in sudden emergency situations, which we are most likely to encounter in our daily line of duty as well as in case of disasters."

The training is being carried out by well-known Disaster Management and Medical Rescue Management expert Angeli Qwatra.

Emphasising the importance of such a training to police personnel, she said, "Police are not only the first responders but they also help in rescuing and transporting the victims. Mostly in emergency situations here, ambulances don't reach on time, even for serious victims.

"Studies have shown that when at least 30 per cent of the population is trained in disaster preparedness, the chances of survival of victim increase considerably."

Special Commissioner (Operations) Deepak Mishra, Special Commissioner (Training) S N Srivastava along with Joint Commisioner (Training) Robin Hibu were also present at the workshop.
