The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has withdrawn a controversial circular which had said that the police will file a final report in cases relating to missing children lying before the police for more than a year.
In a statement, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights today said the move has been initiated by the Crime branch after the Commission took up the issue as the circular "was against the spirit of the provisions of the Indian Evidence Act 1872".
The Commission had asked the Commissioner of Delhi Police to take immediate action to review the implementation of the circular.
It had contended the circular would neither be tenable in the eyes of "the law nor was in the best interest of the missing children and their parents".
According to the Commission, it received a reply from Additional Commisisonerof Police, Crime Branch, saying the circular has been withdrawn.
