Delhi records 3.16 lakh institutional births in 2015

As many as 3.16 lakh institutional births were recorded last year with over 67 per cent of those taking place at government hospitals, a report released by Delhi government said today.
As per the Annual Report on Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi, 2015, prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the city government, sex ratio at birth in Delhi increased from 896 females per thousand males in 2014 to 898 in 2015.
Of the total number of institutional births, 2.12 lakh (67.2 per cent) births took place at government hospitals, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said while releasing the report.
Regarding institutional births in local bodies in 2015, the report says, in New Delhi Municipal Council, it was almost 100 per cent, while in the corporations, the figures stood at - NDMC nearly 86 per cent), SDMC nearly 78 per cent and EDMC nearly 83 per cent.
Further, regarding institutional deaths, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board figures stood at 99 per cent and 92 per cent respectively, whereas it was in the range of 47-61 per cent in the case of the three municipal corporations.
Out of total births, 7.04 per cent were in rural areas and 92.96 per cent in urban parts, the report said.
MCD accounted for 3,25,926 (87.14 per cent) of the total number of births, whereas 44,573 (11.92 per cent) occurred in New Delhi Municipal Council areas and 3,513 (0.94 per cent) in Delhi Cantonment Board, it said.

Further, the analysis of the five local bodies shows that maximum (34.99 per cent) births were recorded in North Delhi Municipal Corporation areas.
Sisodia also informed that the infant mortality rate in the national capital has decreased from 25 per 1,000 live births in 2012 to 24 in 2013 and to 20 in 2014 as per Sample Registration System (SRS).
As per the report, institutional births in Delhi has increased from 81.75 per cent in 2013 to 82.83 per cent in 2014 and 84.41 per cent in 2015.
"2.06 lakh births were recorded in 2014 with 66.4 per cent of these at government hospitals," it said.
Over 43 per cent of women in the national capital in 2015 had their delivery between the age of 20-24 years while about 15 per cent gave birth after attaining the age of 30, the report said, adding 38 per cent women had given birth between the age of 25-29 years.
