"The maximum temperature settled today at 45.5 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average," a MeT official said.
The minimum temperature was recorded a notch above the normal at 28 degrees, said MeT department officials.
The Palam observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 46.4 degrees, also five notches above the season's average.
As people reeled under intense heat wave, the humidity level oscillated between 63 and 19 per cent.
However, there can be some respite from the sweltering heat tomorrow with the weatherman predicting dust storm and thunder storm.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 45 and 28 degrees respectively," a MeT official said.
