Over 1000 Delhiites from different strata of society joined hands to fight crime against women by particpating in the Headlines Today 'Right to be Heard' quarterathon today, walking down JNU campus and Munirka from Vasant Kunj.
The walk was flagged off at Vasant Valley School, Vasant Kunj by Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit and 'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh.
"I am very happy to be amongst you. We are here to run for the safety of women. They are part of our civilization, our world and our society. To protect them, look after them and to give them the kind of respect you expect them to give you will be the beginning of our great revolution," said Dikshit.
The walk to spread awareness about various issues related to women's safety in the country saw the participation of eminent personalities like social activist and a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kiran Bedi, Congress Member of Parliament Naveen Jindal and India Today CEO Ashish Bagga.
"Right to be Heard Delhi Quaterathon should be applauded as such events create more awareness about women's safety. I feel sad on hearing crimes against women. We should come together and build a robust, peaceful society for women," said Milkha Singh.
Many corporate organisations, NGOs and academic institutions also ran for the cause.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Bagga said, "It's wonderful to see the spirit of Delhi. The quarterathon is an extension of the show that aims to cause a social awakening and movement by giving our viewers a platform to raise their voice."
The quarterathon witnessed two races -- one for 11.2km and the other for 4km.
