Delhi's Chief Electoral officer Vijay Dev today made the youth here take a vow that they will exercise their franchise and ensure "ethical" voting is practiced in upcoming 2014 Lok sabha elections.
"We should make it clear to all the politicians and political parties that our vote is not for sale. As youth, you owe to this nation, the responsibility of ensuring that votes are not made available to these politicians in return of anything. This is the concept of ethical voting," said Dev while addressing a voting awareness programme at Dayal Singh College.
All of us have heard of cases where votes are sold for money or few bottles of liqiour. There cannot be anything unfortunate than this," said Dev.
The second important thing he stressed upon was information related to the candidates as "the voting process should be an informed one," he said.
There has to be churning of ideas in our mind before we vote. It should not be a random choice and "the onus lies on youth to ensure Informed Voting".
"All the information related to the candidates are available on our website in public domain. Educate yourself, family members, relatives and people around you," he said.

"Carrying out the elections in Delhi is a gigantic task. The fact that we are also the capital of the country, it puts on us responsibility of setting standards which are like gold standards, not only for the country but for also to set international bench mark."
Despite devoting so much of time in implementation of model code of conduct to ensure free and fair election, the CEO feels doing these jobs which are more "regulatory" in nature are not sufficient for holding succesful elections.
The success of an election means not only ensuring a fair poll but also to ensure maximum voter turn out.
