Delhi's Education Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry as part of a bureaucratic reshuffle effected today by the Centre.

Srivastava, a 1993-batch IAS officer of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, will have a tenure of five years, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Srivastava has been working in the Directorate of Education for long and said to be part of many projects undertaken by the Delhi government. The Delhi government has claimed to have brought a revolution in school education.

Srivastava's transfer comes about a month after the Centre cancelled the appointment of nine advisers including Atishi Marlena, media advisor to Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi has been engaged in disputes with bureaucrats on many issues, the latest being the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February this year.

Delhi's Finance Secretary Sanjeev nandan Sahai was last week appointed as Additional Secretary in the Union Power Ministry. The BJP has claimed that bureaucrats are unable to work with the Delhi government and therefore opting for central deputation.
