The district was awarded based on its performance during the Digital India Week, conducted earlier this year, by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and IT.
A selection committee chose the best performers based on data provided by states and Union Territories.
The west district administration was awarded for successfully implementing and disseminating many citizen friendly e-Governance practices for better public service delivery.
The district has implemented various e-governance projects including the most used e-district project which is used by citizens for obtaining various certificates like domicile, caste, income, birth etc, the Delhi government said.
It said that a total of 30,898 applications were received by the West District on the e-District platform out of a total of 1,96,554 applications, "which is 16 per cent of total applications" received across districts.
