Delhi teen shot at over scoring dispute in kabaddi match

An 18-year-old boy was shot at by a spectator after an argument broke out between the teams over scoring in a local match in southeast Delhi's Dakshinpuri, the police said today.
At 8:20 pm yesterday, the match was being played between the C block and the 20 block team at a park. A dispute arose between the two sides over the score and the mid-line.
Both the sides got into an argument and accused each other of not playing a fair game, the police said.
Meanwhile, two spectators, who were supporting the C block team, also jumped in and accused the rival players of of cheating, they said.
One of the two men then whipped out a pistol and shot at Avinash, who was playing for the 20 block team, they added.
As soon as other people heard the gunshot, they started running here and there. However, someone from the crowd alerted the police who soon arrived on the spot.

Avinash was rushed to Batra Hospital where he has been operated upon and is stable. The bullet grazed his skull, said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).
Both the assailants have been identified and police teams formed to nab them, said the officer, adding it is suspected that one of them is a juvenile.
Avinash's family told police that he plays kabaddi at the state level. He stays with his family in 20 block of Dakshinpuri and is a class XI student. He has three siblings. His father works as a driver.
