The Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) today relaunched its mobile app in a revamped avatar to enable the general public to report traffic offences occurring on city roads.
Launched in 2015, the Traffic Sentinel Scheme enables citizens to report certain identified traffic violations to the DTP and has 7,700 registered traffic sentinels who are awarded reward points, the police said.
On the basis of discussions held with the 'Traffic Sentinels' and feedback received from time to time, the app has been redeveloped.
Earlier, the users were informed about the reward points they have accumulated on email. Now, their mobile numbers will serve as the main registration key to the app, said the DTP in a statement.
Traffic sentinels have been given the option of recording photos and videos of traffic violators in offline mode and save them in the phone memory. They can upload them on the app once a good bandwidth of Internet is available, it added.
An existing user also stands to earn reward points if they introduce a new 'sentinel' to the scheme.
Ajay Kashyap, special commissioner of police (Traffic) said this tool will give an opportunity to the citizens to help inculcate a habit of traffic discipline on Delhi roads.
