Delhi turnout: highest in Chandni Chowk

With 67.54 per cent, Chandni Chowk recorded the highest voter turnout among the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in the national capital that went to polls yesterday.
Bettering the 2009 turnout numbers by 13 per cent, Delhi this time recorded 65.09 per cent overall polling percentage.
Chandni Chowk was closely followed by North East Delhi (67.12 pc) and West Delhi (66.03 pc), while the lowest voter turnout was recorded in North West Delhi (61.66 pc).
East Delhi and New Delhi constituencies also recorded a high turnout of 65.35 per cent and 65 per cent respectively while South Delhi registered 62.98 per cent turnout.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the overall voting percentage was recorded at 51.81 per cent, which increased to 66 per cent in the 2013 Delhi Assembly election in December last year.
The highest ever turnout Delhi witnessed was in the Lok Sabha polls after Emergency was lifted in 1977, at 71.3 per cent.

This time, women voters came out in sizeable numbers in most of the constituencies with many polling booths registering over 60 per cent turnout.
The highest turnout of women voters was witnessed at Seemapuri (70.45 per cent), Trilokpuri (70.35 per cent) and Janakpuri (69 per cent), while the lowest was recorded at Mundka (56.21 per cent).
Out of the 1.27 crore eligible voters in Delhi, over 82.65 lakh people exercised their franchise.
