Delhi Urdu Academy awards announced

Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, who is also the Chairperson of the Urdu Academy Delhi made the announcement today.

"On the 150th anniversary of last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar the awards would be given to the Alvi brothers," said Anis Azmi, Secretary of the Urdu Academy.

The awards have been given to them for their lifetime services to the Urdu language and culture, Azmi said.

The award carries Rs 1,11,111, a shawl and a robe of honour and citation.

Former JNU lecturer Aslam Parvez has been chosen for 2012 Pandit Brij Mohan Dattatriya Award.

He will also be given over Rs one lakh and a citation.

Qamar Sambhli got award for Urdu poetry, while for criticism Maula Bax has been chosen.
