A day after its journalist Akshay Singh who was covering Vyapam scam died under mysterious circumstances, India Today group has urged Madhya Pradesh government to send his viscera sample to a forensic laboratory outside the state, preferably AIIMS here, for a transparent examination.
In a statement released here, the group today said that the circumstances of the untimely death of Singh merits a full, fair and independent inquiry.
"We urge the Madhya Pradesh government to immediately have viscera sample sent to a recognised forensic laboratory outside the state, preferably Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences, for a thorough and transparent examination. This would assuage the family, friends and well wishers of Akshay who seek some closure," the group said in a statement.
Calling Singh a brave and fearless journalist, the India Today group said that it stands by the family in their hour of crisis.
The sister of the reporter is also learnt to have written a letter to the MP state government seeking that his viscera sample be sent to AIIMS.
The Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA), a body which has several senior journalists of TV channels as members, also condoled the death of the Aaj Tak journalist.
Expressing deep concern, BEA sought an immediate free and fair probe into this sudden and unexplained death.
