Raising a special mention, Congress member Bhalchandra Mungekar said such a move would be a fitting tribute to the great social reformer who laid the foundation of women's education in India.
Mungekar, a former Vice Chancellor of University of Bombay, said Savitribai and her husband Jotirao Phule were the first to diagnose that the denial of right to education was the root cause of downtrodden including women. She started the first school for women in 1848 facing severe odds.
