Congress member Avinash Pande said the Home Minister had stated that about 14,000 women were trained in self-defence as a measure for protecting themselves.
"But, crimes against women are even more higher. Measures such as self-defence training and installing CCTV cameras may not control crimes against women. So, government should enhance women security by empowering them with taser guns or pepper sprays, which should be provided at free of cost," Pande said.
SP member Chaudhary Munvvar Saleem raised the issue of hazardous substances like arsenic in underground water and wanted a time-bound plan to address this problem.
He said people residing in about 86 districts of 10 states were affected due to the presence of aresenic in underground drinking water.
Three lakh people were suffering from disease caused by arsenic, he claimed.
