Expressing concern over safety of women in the national capital, a demand was made in the Rajya Sabha today to implement Justice Usha Mehra Commission's recommendations regarding policing of public transport.
Making a demand through a special mention, NCP leader Majeed Memon said, "The Nirbhaya gangrape incident has hardly been forgotten, yet another rape incident in a cab has shaken the national capital.
"A report by Justice Usha Mehra on post-Nirbhaya incident has been submitted to the government but it has not been implemented," he said.
The Mehra Commission was constituted to inquire into various aspects of the Nirbhaya gangrape in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012. It has already submitted its recommendations to the government.
The government has tabled the action taken report on the Mehra panel recommendations during the Monsoon session of Parliament in August.
The Commission had suggested amendment in section 231 of CrPC which relates to evidence recorded by judge and provision for cross-examination through video conferencing. It also suggested separation of investigation agency from law and order duties.
The panel had stressed the need for plying of more government-operated buses in Delhi at night.
