Several persons, including a member of parliament and a ward counsellor, were detained when they staged a protest against the demolition of a temple in east Delhi's Priyadarshini Vihar area today.
Two buses full of protesters were taken to Anand Vihar police station and released a few hours after the demolition was over, said a senior police official.
According to the police, the demolition of a part of the Laxmi Narayan temple took place in adherence to a court order.
The concerned authority which carried out the demolition had informed the police in advance and asked them to be present in order to maintain the law and order situation.
The entire area was barricaded and there was large police deployment in the area, said the official.
The court had ordered its demolition a few months ago.
The temple authorities were informed yesterday night about the demolition.
