The demonetisation move of Narendra Modi government at Centre is causing difficulty on the part of Kolkata Municipal Corporation to maintain it's civic services, city Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said today.
"We are having difficulty in cash payment to contractors for maintaining drainage, roads repair and car parking services," Chatterjee told reporters at the KMC headquarters here.
The senior Trinamool Congress leader, who is also the state Fire Services minister, said the 'attack on the common man' due to the sudden banning of Rs 500/1000 currency and cash crunch was more severe than the British era.
He said as part of the effort to be on the side of publlic, the Corporation decided to accept property tax in the denomination of Rs 500/1000 currencies from public till November 24.
The KMC got Rs 25 crore through property tax payments in past few days, Chatterjee said.
