Dempo aim to stop high flying Royal Wahingdoh's impressive run
Press Trust of India Margao Dempo FC will be aiming to stop high-flying Royal Wahingdoh's impressive run when the two teams clash in a Hero I-League match here tomorrow.
Lack of finishing has been Dempo's main problem which saw them lose to Pune FC in their last match.
Tolgay Ozbey, who came as a late substitute, created an impact by scoring a goal as Dempo tried hard to find the equaliser but could not succeed as the Pune FC scored a 2-1 win.
Ozbey is a doubtful starter but with Haroon Amiri back in the side after a one match suspension, the team will have a strengthened defence.
On the other hand, Royal Wahingdoh continued their impressive run ending Mohun Bagan's unbeaten streak and closing the gap at the top of the table for the title chase. They now have 26 points from 15 matches, two points behind leader Mohun Bagan who have 28 but have played two matches less than Wahingdoh.
Royal Wahingdoh coach Santosh Kashyap said the team's morale is high after beating Mohun Bagan.
"The boys are upbeat after the win and are now looking to concentrate to win the remaining matches, let's see how far we reach," stated Kashyap.
Dempo assistant coach Maurico Afonso was disappointed with his strikers for not finishing well.
"It is not that Dempo is not playing good football but we lack in scoring. In the last match we were down to 10 men but still had more of the ball possession. Now we are trying to concentrate on winning matches and hopefully finish among the top five," stated Afonso.
