Playing at the JRD Tata Sports complex, Dempo, who drew 1-1 against AIFF's developmental side Pailan Arrows in the opener, went all out effort on a slippery ground to register a win against the spirited northeast side.

Both the sides mostly relied on long passes in the match played in heavy rains as the short passes did not work due to sloggy ground condition.

Dempo surged ahead in the 44th minute through a brilliant free kick awarded to the Goan club following a foul just on top of the penalty box off Clifford Miranda.

After trailing 0-1, Shillong Lajong FC regrouped to bounce back, but the Dempo defenders successfully prevented them on each occasion.

Shillong Lajong's two players, Wailadmi Passah and Lalramluaha, were cautioned for reckless tackle.

With this match, Dempo secured four points from two outings while Shillong Lajong has three from one win, one loss in as many matches. (MORE)
