Amid increasing demand for platelets in the city which is grappling with dengue crisis, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) today organised blood donation camps at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indraprastha University here.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal along with the members of the Commission visited the camps and urged the students and staff there to donate blood so that there is no shortage of platelets in the city.
"Delhi is grappling with dengue menace and there is shortage of platelets. People in large numbers should come forward to donate blood so that lives can be saved," said Maliwal, who herself donated blood during her visit to the blood donation camp held at JNU.
Nearly 2,200 fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the last one week, taking the seasons total to around a whopping 6,000 as hospitals across the city continued to be flooded with patients affected by the mosquito-borne fever in which over 33 people have died so far.
According to official figure released today, at least 5,151 patients were found to be down with dengue between September 1-26, making it the worst month for the outbreak of the disease in the last six years.
