Dengue death toll in West Bengal since January this year has increased to 36 while more than 20,000 people have tested positive for the vector-borne disease, a senior Health department official said today.
West Bengal Director of Health Services, Biswaranjan Satpathy, said the number of dengue deaths might go up as the department was waiting to get a "confirmation" regarding three other deaths that happened today at different hospitals.
"The number of Dengue deaths in West Bengal is 36 since January. But this figure may go up because we are waiting for the reports of three more deaths that happened today. Our department is also validating the new reports on Dengue infection," Satpathy told PTI.
He said 20,512 people have tested positive for the vector-borne disease.
Most of the Dengue cases have been reported from districts like Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas district's South Dum Dum and South 24 Parganas.
On Tuesday chief secretary Malay Dey had said that 35 dengue deaths have been reported from different parts of state.
