Dengue toll climbs to 8 in WB, 995 affected since January

One person died of dengue, while another death which was reported last month was today found to be from the same disease, taking the toll in the state since January to eight.
One person, in his mid-30s, from Howrah died of dengue at a nursing home this morning. Another death in the North 24 Parganas reported on July 28 was today detected to be a case of the vector-borne disease, state Director of Health Services, Biswaranjan Satpathy said.
In the last 24 hours, 157 new cases of dengue were reported mainly from North 24 Parganas district, besides Hooghly and Howrah. Since January, 995 people have been affected with the disease in the state, he said.
"People tested positive with dengue mainly from North 24 Parganas' Dum Dum, Salt Lake and Dum Dum (South) areas," Satpathy said.
In Hooghly, dengue cases were reported from Uttarpara and Sreerampore, while a few cases were reported from West Medinipore's Garbeta and North Bengal, he added.
Officials had said 41 urban local bodies in the state are at risk of Dengue and they have been asked to increase cleanliness activities including removal of stagnant water.
