Deploy advance tech to fight pollution: NTPC CMD

As the jury is still out on ways to combat pollution, the state-owned NTPC today said the challenge before the power sector is to deploy advance technology with an aim to reduce carbon intensity and provide power at competitive rates.
Addressing the 30th Indian Engineering Congress in Guwahati, NTPC CMD A K Jha said the 21st century engineering will be about environmental and social sustainability of the planet and its people, according to the company's release.
As India moves to a high trajectory of growth through major policy initiatives like Make in India, the big responsibility lies with the engineering fraternity, Jha said.
The theme of the congress was '21st Century Engineering- Make in India Pathway' for the country to become a preferred source for the world for class processes, products and services.
The country's largest power producer NTPC has a total installed capacity of 45,548 MW, including JVs, with 18 coal-fired and 7 gas-based stations, according to its website.
The company has set a target of an installed power generating capacity of 1,28,000 MW by 2032, the website said.
