Dept of agronomy gets awarded

Tamil Nadu Agricultural Univeirsity's Department of Agronomy has been awarded as the Best Performing Tribal Sub Plan Centre, by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
The department has adopted Puthukkadu Vilalge of Erode district, comprising 40 farm finalies with 100 acres for empowerement of tribals from September 2012 in the ongoing All India Coordinated Research Project- Integrated Farming System, (AICRP-IFS), a varsity release said today.
The award was presented at the recently held 31st Biennial Workshop of AICRP-IFS in appreciation of functioning and other allied activities of the department.
Similarly, Paiyur Regional Research Station, working as a segment under AICRP at Dharmapuri District was also bestowed with Best Performing On farm Research Centre, the release said.
To mobilize and to motivate the tribal people to secure a sustained and stabilized livelihood, agricultural inputs and other farm resources like seeds, biofertilizers, tree saplings, goat, cattle and chicks and fodder were distributed.
