The move comes against the backdrop of anti-nuclear activists staging over a year long agitation on the safety of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power project in Tirunelveli district.
"We were training educated people. Now we are teaching the masses," Department of Atomic Energy, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Resource Management Group, Associate Director, Dr M Saibaba said on the sidelines of a conference here.
He said recently, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research at Kalpakkam conducted similar awareness programmes in about 15 villages located in and around the area.
To a query, he said they have been conducting programmes even in Kudankulam and nearby locations educating the people on the benefits of the nuclear energy.
"It is a continuous process", he said.
"What is happening in Kudankulam is fears on the safety for them (locals) and to the sea. If there is any doubt on safety aspects then we should sit and discuss", he said.
