One of the directors of the District Central Co-operative Bank and leader of a local organisation Suresh Dahekar was allegedly murdered by the deputy Sarpanch of Talodhi (Naik) village under Chimur tehsil today, police said.
The deceased Dahekar was the leader of Yuva Shakti Shanghatna, they said.
Police said the accused Swapnil Wakde allegedly stabbed Dahekar in the market area around 8:30 AM when the latter was buying grocery.
Police suspect old political rivalry to be the cause behind the murder as Dahekar was a member of Talodhi (Naik) Gram Panchayat.
Wakde was arrested and booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC, they said.
