A large number of Dera Sacha Sauda followers today protested against the District Police for failing to arrest two persons allegedly involved in the rape of a Dalit minor girl.
More than 3,000 Dera followers, armed with sticks gathered here amid heavy police presence, raised slogans against Moga Police for its alleged inaction in the rape case, police said.
They alleged that despite an FIR was lodged against two accused identified as Angrez Singh and Manpreet Singh of Mahesari Sandhauan village, police had failed to arrest them.
They, however, agreed to suspend their protest after Faridkot SSP Gurmeet Singh Randhawa assured them of arresting the culprits within next 48 hours, police said, adding, that he also promised them strict action against cops for failing to perform their duties.
The 15-year-old victim, who was allegedly raped on September 13 by two persons from Mahesari Sandhauan village here, is the daughter of a Dera follower.
