For the second consecutive day today, Dera Sacha Sauda followers blocked traffic on Ludhiana- Malerkolta road near Jaghera village for several hours, demanding arrest of those who shot dead a father-son duo in Khanna.
The protesters said they will not let the cremation take place till police arrest those behind the heinous crime. The bodies have been kept at 'Naam Charcha ghar' at Jaghera.
"The cremation will not take place until the killers are nabbed," said Harinder Insan, member of the state-level committee of Dera Sacha Sauda.
They blocked the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, forcing the administration to divert the traffic.
As tension mounted over the killing, police stepped up security at the deras in the state to prevent any untoward situation.
"No arrest has been made yet. But we are on the job to track assailants. We are scanning the CCTV footage to gain clues," Khanna SSP Satinder Singh said.
The CCTV footage procured by police showed the assailants came at the dera canteen riding a bike, were wearing caps and their faces were covered.
The footage from CCTV cameras installed along different roads that lead to the dera canteen are also being collected.
Two unidentified men had gunned down Satpal (65) and his son Ramesh Kumar (35) when they were working at the dera canteen on February 25 evening.
DIG Ludhiana Range S K Kalia had yesterday said police were making all attempts to trace the killers and were working on different theories, including terrorism.
A special investigation team comprising Khanna SSP Satinder Singh, SP Satnam Singh and DSP Varinderjit Thind has been set up by the Punjab Police to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has promised "all help" to kin of the victim. He termed the killing as "monstrous" and urged the government to nab the culprit at the earliest.
