YSR Congress party chief and Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today sought an ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of those killed in the Hirakhand Express mishap.
"The ex gratia and compensation they are paying is meagre and does not compensate the human loss", he told reporters.
"The government should pay Rs 20 lakh for the family that has lost a member in the mishap," said Jagan after meeting the injured at an hospital here.
At least 39 people were yesterday killed and 69 injured when engine and nine coaches of Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express jumped the tracks in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district with the railways suspecting sabotage behind the derailment.
He also demanded that the government should announce Rs 2 lakh aid for the injured.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh under an insurance scheme to the kin of passengers from the state who were killed in the train derailment.
