The report on the derailment of Muzaffarpur-Yeshwantpur Express at Chitheri Railway station near Arakonam on April 10, is expected in a month, a top Southern Railway official said today.
The Commissioner (Safety) of Railways is conducting the inquiry, whether the derailment was man-made or due to technical snag, or due to poor maintenance of railway track, Southern Railways General Manager Rakesh Mishra told reporters here.
One person was killed and over 30 injured in the mishap.
Ruling out handing over the Heritage Nilgiri Mountain Rail train service--running between Mettupalayam and here, to private operators, he said the sector was actually running under loss.
The service was getting an income of Rs 30,000 per day, whereas it was incurring a loss of Rs five lakh per day, which includes the salary for employees, track maintenance and also the fuel, Kishore said.
To a question on setting up a museum on NMR, the official said a proposal has been sent to the Railway Board to establish it either in Udhagamandalam or Fernhill.
