The directive by Appellate Tribunal for Electricity came during a hearing on a case filed by the BSES discoms last year seeking liquidation of their regulatory assets to recover past losses.
The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity has jurisdiction to take up power related disputes across the country as per provisions of Electricity Act, 2003.
The Delhi government on Monday had recommended to Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to revoke the license of BSES discoms if they fail to pay dues to NTPC and resort to long outages in large parts of the city.
BSES discoms, which supply power in nearly 70 per cent areas in the city, had informed that they did not have money to buy power and the city may reel under long outages if funds are not provided to them.
Delhi government has said it was ready to take over power distribution in the city to control the "ugly situation". The BSES discoms had slammed the government for recommending to DERC to revoke their licenses, terming the move as "arbitrary" and "illegal".
