A professional body under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) also stated that design examination has increased by 52.8 per cent during the five months of this fiscal.
National Intellectual Property Organisation (NIPO) President T C James said that increase in the number of filings reflects increase in the manufacturing activity and consumer goods particularly lifestyle products.
The DIPP is taking steps to facilitate faster processing of applications for registration of designs.
The Commerce and Industry Ministry is taking steps to reduce the pendency of applications for registration of intellectual property rights (IPRs).
CIPAM also said in a tweet that the next major change that it is introducing is simplifications in procedures to boost filing of IPR applications.
"Patent rules have been amended recently & TM (trademark) rules expected to be amended in a couple of months," it said.
