Desire to puff a cigarette costs a man his life

A 28-year-old migrant worker from Bihar was killed allegedly by his friend following a brawl over Rs 5 spent by the deceased to purchase a cigarette, police said.
The deceased, Mukesh Paswan from Champaran district in Bihar, was staying in a single room shanty along with three others from his state.
They were given Rs 2000 by their employer for purchasing some grocery on September 10 for the Onam festival.
Police said Mukesh purchased the grocery articles and bought a cigarette costing Rs 5 for himself.
On September 11 at around 6 pm, Mukesh and Jitherdra Ram, who were in an inebriated state, engaged in a verbal duel over the amount spent for the cigarette following which the latter stabbed him with scissors, killing him on the spot.
The accused earlier said Mukesh had swooned and died, police said, adding, the postmortem examination however revealed that he had injuries on his liver and a blood vessel had been ruptured, following which Jithendra was arrested and remanded.
