Notwithstanding attempts by the alleged "power mafia" to disrupt rejuvenation of Ganga, the Government today said that it is determined to cleanse the polluted holy river "come what may".
Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati today said that she has come across several stories which are circulated on the Internet that river Ganga is going to die and disappear.
"I have heard several stories, which are being circulated on the Internet. The story was that in the end of Kalyug, the Ganga will die and it will disappear. The story was circulated so fast that I could understand that it was by some mafia, power mafia because they can want to exploit Ganga," she said while addressing the gathering at valedictory function of India Water Week 2015 here.
Pointing out that such stories are being circulated with an intention to divert the attention from clean Ganga mission, Bharati said that such attempts are being made to exploit the river.
"They are circulating these stories that Ganga will die in the end of Kalyug. Ganga is dying let her die, let us exploit it because it is dying like a person is half dead, then you start donating the organs.... The power mafia can plan any kind of power projects. They can play any tricks for exploiting the Ganga," she said.
Bharati said that such disruptions would be destroyed and the river would remain alive.
"I will determine that come what may I will not allow any disruption. I will not allow any problem. I will destroy every disruption, every problem which comes in my way to clean Ganga," the Minister added.
Bharati said, "I will give my life and she (Ganga) will remain alive."
Elaborating about the plans for cleaning up Ganga, the Minister said that the initial results of rejuvenating the river would come out in two years.
