Development in NE making rapid strides since 2 years: Singh

The development activity in the Northeast has made rapid strides in the last two years and to make India's 'Act East Policy' more effective and fruitful, there is a need to strengthen resources proximal to the eastern borders, DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh said today.
"It is my considered belief that in order to make India's 'Act East Policy' more effective and fruitful, we will also have to strengthen and reinforce our resources proximal to the eastern borders," he said releasing the first-ever North Eastern Council's coffee table book on Northeast.
Singh in this regard referred to the under construction rail-link to Bangladesh from Tripura, which is being funded by the Ministry of DoNER on the Indian side from Agartala to Akhaura, along the Bangladesh border.

The Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) said in the last two years, the development activity in the region has made rapid strides, primarily because of the personal interest and high priority accorded to the area by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"This is evident from the fact that no Prime Minister had attended a plenary meeting of the NEC at its headquarters in Shillong in the last 40 years before the current Prime Minister addressed the 65th Plenary Session of NEC on May 27 this year," he said.
The hard-cover coffee table book, consisting of 180 pages, is mainly a pictorial and visual depiction of the various facets of Northeast with messages from the President, the Prime Minister, DoNER Minister as well as from the Governors and Chief Ministers of all the eight Northeastern states.
