Development will not take place at the cost of environment and a committee will be constituted to check the growing menace of pollution and water contamination in the state, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said today.
Addressing the legislative Assembly, Gehlot said the state government will be constituting a committee of experts to examine the situation of increasing pollution and water contamination due to industries.
"Development would not be at the cost of environment. The increase in pollution and water contamination due to industries is alarming and many areas are affected. We need to address this issue and therefore I will constitute a committee of experts so that we can make a long term strategy.
"There is no problem if the state gets lesser investment but development will not take place on the cost of environment," Gehlot said.
The Chief Minister said this while intervening during the reply of state Industry Minister Rajendra Pareekin on the present arrangement for disposal of industrial waste during the question hour.
MLA Ramhet Singh had raised the issue in the Assembly, while another legislator Rao Rajendra Singh drew attention of the government towards the problem faced by people due to water contamination and pollution.
