Development plans for are being envisaged for Coimbatore

AAI Cargo Logistic and Allied Services Company (AAICLAS) today said that development plans spanning, three, five and and 10 year period are being envisaged towards bringing in a surge in the cargo trade from the region.
In an interactive session on Business Promotion and Development of Air Cargo organised by CII here, Chief Executive Officer Keku Gazder said focus on new businesses new products and new verticals in cargo trade are being looked upon besides development of pack house facilities and development of ICD, Bonded truck and Offshore AFS facilities in the region, Gazder said.
Stating that automation of cargo handling facility will be implemented in Coimbatore Airport by November end for the benefit of the industry, he said the intention of AAICLASs activities was aimed towards extending its services away from the Airport premises.
With respect to uplifting cargo from Coimbatore, efforts in the areas of increasing the runway length and development of apron for cargo docking and landing of wider bodied aircrafts are being looked into, he said.
A visit by higher authorities from Aviation Ministry and AAI to the city is on the cards next week, he said.
With reference to the issues in uplifting perishable and semi-perishable cargo like flowers, vegetables and sweets etc, he mentioned that, offloading issue is dangerous and a separate discussion on the same with all the airlines will be convened by AAICLAS shortly, he said.
