Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) yesterday pulled out from Congress-led UPA government at Centre and Andhra government over the temple issue.

The prohibitory orders in place near the Charminar are being strictly enforced by police who did not allow vehicles to proceed towards Charminar and devotees had to walk their way to the temple to pay their obeisance.

A curfew-like situation prevailed around the monument and shops remained closed for the third day today as police cordoned off the roads leading to Charminar.

However, the situation was totally peaceful so far and prohibitory orders likely to continue for a day or two, a police officer of South Zone said.

MIM took exception to RSS activists allegedly being allowed to erect a tarpaulin on the religious structure at Charminar, which, they said, was a violation of the state High Court order to maintain status quo.
