Lakhs of devotees performed the famous 'goverdhan parikrama' (circumambulation) around the holy land of Braj, the birth place of Lord Krishna, on the occasion of Guru-Purnima last night.
On Braj Mandala Parikrama, lakhs of devotees from far and wide come together to the Braj Bhoomi for circumambulation of the divine land, with their bare foot around, spread over 'seven cos' (about 21 kms), Goverdhan Mela Officer Dhirendra Sachan said.
Despite a sunny day and braving the heat wave conditions, the devotees performed parikrama bare foot on the roads and sand to pay their obeisance to Lord Krishna's janambhoomi, the officer said.
The district administration and police, however, had made elaborate arrangements for devotees.
The state road transport corporation ran special buses to ease the pressure of religious tourists in last two days, the officer said.
