Devotees from all walks of life took a holy dip in the sacred pond of 'Achleshawar Dham' near here to pay obeisance to Lord Kartikey, an elder son of Lord Shiva, as part of a two day fair which began today.
President, Achleshwar Kar Seva Trust, Pawan Kumar said many sadhus have reached the temple premises and more than 30 'havan-kunds' have been installed around the temple lake where the 'havan-yagyas' are being performed around the clock.
Batala SSP Diljinder Singh Dhillon said the area has been divided into four parts and under the supervision of SP (Headquaters), a number of police personnel have been deployed for maintaining law and order.
The area is decorated with buntings and shops have been set up adjacent to roads leading towards the holy place.
According to legends, the place came to be known as Achal (immovable) when Lord Kartikey started living here after Lord Shiva selected his younger son, Ganesha, as his successor.
