Members of the Dhangar (Shepard) community will take out a massive 'morcha' to Maharashtra Vidhan Bhawan on December 8 to press for their demand of getting inclusion in the Schedule Tribe (ST) category.
The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature begins here on December 7.
"(Maharashtra Chief Minister) Devendra Fadnavis himself and the BJP had promised in the election manifesto during Assembly elections that Dhangars would be declared ST within six months of coming to power," Vikas Mahatme, founder president of Dhangar Samaj Action Committee, said.
"The BJP government has failed to live up to the promise made during the elections campaign. Therefore, we have decided to protest against it and to press for demands for reservation to the community, we will take out a massive morcha on December 8, the second day of state Legislature" he said.
We are demanding inclusion in ST category which was granted in 1950 in the (Indian) Constitution but denied in implementation because of typographical error as the item 36 mentions 'Dhangad', D replacing R, Mahatme claimed.
He threatened that the community members will intensify their agitation if the state government does not accepts their demand.
He claimed about 1.23 crore voters from the community voted BJP to power only hoping that they will get justice.
