Tamil film musician Sean Roldan, who has composed the music for Dhanush's directorial debut "Power Paandi", says the actor-producer is a great storyteller and has a keen ear for music.
"Dhanush is a great storyteller. His understanding of various departments of filmmaking is as strong as his acting prowess. I hope he continues to make more films," Roldan told PTI.
"He is familiar with the sound arrangements too. I've seen him grasp things which I took ten years to learn in just a minute. He has an endless appetite to learn things and is a great observer."
Roldan is also composing for Dhanush, Amala Paul and Kajol-starrer "Velai Illa Pattathari 2" which is directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth.
"'VIP 2' is certainly a different space for me. It will be a youthful album. It will give me scope as a composer to showcase my next dimension."
Roldan's acclaimed album "Joker" fetched singer Sundarayyar a national award for the Best Playback Singer Male this year for the song 'Jasmine-U.'
"We spotted Sundarayyar in an audition. He came up with a song on his own. We were taken aback by his singing. In fact, I had already finished composing for all songs. But, I created a new tune for him and I'm happy that he has received the National award for that song," he said.
While he grew up listening to the songs of A R Rahman, Roldan became a huge fan of Ilaiyaraja later when he watched his movies on television.
"In 'Kadhal Rojave' track (from 'Roja'), the opening humming will have a long reverb tail. Rahman was one of the first composers to use 'reverb' as a musical. I would call him a 'sound poet.' His music had a huge influence on me.
"When it comes to 'arrangement,' I love Ilaiyaraja sir's music. His work created an impact on me when I watched his movies on television. As I grew up, I learned how in-depth Raja sir's music was. His extensive repertoire is something no one can touch today."
Roldan's upcoming projects include Aishwarya Dhanush's "Mariyappan," the biopic of Indian Paralympic high jumper and gold medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu, Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal's "Katha Nayagan" and Vikram Prabhu's "Neruppu Da".
