Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the Dhola-Sadia bridge that the prime minister would inaugurate on May 26 would meet a vital requirement of the country's defence perspective.
"The Dhola-Sadia bridge would not only ease hardship of the people of Sadia but also fulfil a vital requirement in terms of the country's defence perspective as Arunachal Pradesh shares boundary with China," Sonowal said.
The 9.16 km bridge, the longest one of the country, linking Sadia in Assam and Dhola in Arunachal Pradesh would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Holding a high level review meeting here in upper Assam, he directed the bridge construction company to complete construction works within May 22.
Expressing dissatisfaction on the poor condition of NH 37, particularly the portions passing through Sivasagar, Jorhat and Numaligarh, he also called for immediate repair of the road.
Sonowal also visited the proposed construction site of an extended campus of Indian Council of Agricultural Research at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district where the prime minister would lay the foundation stone of the project on May 26.
